Colleagues comparing pipeline numbers on screen — choosing the CRM that matches how the business runs

Ask a room of Canadian agents to name a CRM and these two come back first — for opposite reasons. IXACT Contact, Toronto-born in 2007 and now US-headquartered, is the keep-in-touch machine: its whole job is a sphere that never stops hearing from you, busy month or not. Follow Up Boss is the team lead engine: a hub that swallows inquiries from every source you pay and puts them in front of the right agent in seconds. Both publish pricing, which makes this an unusually honest comparison — but the choice is a business-model question before it is a feature question.

The IXACT Contact model

Discipline as a subscription. Annual billing lists at $46.75 USD a month, $55 without the commitment; extra seats for team members run $28.90 or $34, the trial costs nothing, and no contract binds you. What IXACT is famous for is its monthly e-Newsletter: professionally written content that goes out under your name automatically, month after month, whether you remember it or not. Around that centrepiece sit call reminders to keep the sphere warm, reportable email campaigns, Google sync, a mobile app, and a bundled agent site — with IDX search sold separately through IDX Broker Core ($50/mo, $69 setup) and a standalone Recruiter product at $85/$99 for brokerages that hire. It is purpose-built for the agent whose business compounds through past clients and referrals, and priced accordingly.

The Follow Up Boss model

Aggregation and speed. Its US price list is public: Grow costs $69 per user each month, Pro bundles 10 users for $499, Platform bundles 30 for $1,000, and annual billing shaves each rate. The trial is free, contracts do not exist, the top tiers make calling and texting unlimited, and AI features run on every plan. The real product is the integration ecosystem — hundreds of lead sources, websites, and tools pouring into one pipeline with routing, accountability, and shared inboxes on top. It has operated as a standalone product under Zillow Group ownership since 2023. FUB assumes you already generate leads from multiple places and that the bottleneck is working them fast and visibly — the speed-to-lead problem turned into software.

How a Canadian agent should choose

Sort your last twenty transactions by origin. Mostly people who already knew you? IXACT’s cadence — the newsletter, the call reminders, the anniversary touches — is the highest-ROI version of what you actually do, at less than half FUB’s per-seat price. Mostly strangers from paid sources, portal inquiries, and site registrations? FUB’s routing and response tooling is built for exactly that traffic, and its flat team tiers get efficient as seats fill: $499 across ten users undercuts most per-seat CRMs at that size. Two Canadian cautions apply to both: pricing is USD, so add the exchange rate to every mental figure, and CASL consent management is your job in either system — neither sells itself on Canadian consent-first automation.

Where BrokerFold fits

Both of these assume the website is someone else’s job — IXACT treats it as a brochure to bundle, FUB as a lead source to integrate. BrokerFold inverts that: the board-fed website is the engine (TRREB live in production, sold-price research gated the compliant VOW way), and the CRM inside it sees what every registrant views, favourites, and searches — behaviour neither of these can capture, because they never see your traffic. Pricing is published in CAD, $89 to $999 monthly with seats bundled by tier. Our direct cases against each are at BrokerFold vs IXACT Contact and BrokerFold vs Follow Up Boss, the whole category is scored in best CRM in Canada, and the full price landscape sits in CRM pricing compared.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper for a solo Canadian agent?

IXACT Contact, clearly: $46.75 USD a month on annual billing or $55 monthly, against Follow Up Boss's $69 USD per user. Both price in US dollars, so a Canadian budget carries the exchange rate either way. The cheaper tool is only the better buy if its model — scheduled sphere touches rather than multi-source lead aggregation — matches where your deals come from.

Does either one give me a real estate website?

IXACT bundles a responsive agent website, with IDX search available through an IDX Broker Core add-on at $50/mo plus a $69 setup fee. Follow Up Boss deliberately offers no website at all — it expects your site and lead vendors to feed it through integrations. Neither is a board-fed search destination; that is a different product category.

Are they CASL-compliant for Canadian follow-up?

Compliance lives in how you use them, not in the badge. Both are US-priced, US-shaped products, so the burden of consent categories, implied-consent expiry, and unsubscribe mechanics on every commercial message falls on your configuration and record-keeping. Ask each vendor to show consent tracking in-product before automating anything in Canada.
