Connecting a domain's DNS records from a laptop

Custom domains put your BrokerFold site on the address you own — yourname.ca instead of a vendor subdomain — with a records-only setup that never touches your nameservers, certificates handled automatically, and support for multiple domains on one site. Your domain is the one marketing asset that should outlive every vendor decision you make, and the connection flow is built around that fact.

Connecting: records, never nameservers

From the dashboard’s domain settings you add your domain and get exactly the DNS records to create — the apex and www shapes, plus the certificate-validation entries — with instructions aware of common registrars. You paste them in at your registrar, the platform verifies and issues SSL, and the site goes live on your name. What the flow will never ask for is a nameserver change. Moving nameservers hands a website vendor control of everything on the domain, including email — the classic trap where leaving a provider breaks your inbox. Here your registrar stays yours, your mail records stay wherever they are, and disconnecting is deleting a few records.

Each domain shows its own status card — records, verification polling, disconnect — so a stalled DNS propagation is a visible state, not a support mystery.

Multiple domains, one site

Plans include a domain allowance: at least one on every plan, and one per included seat on team plans (five on Team, twelve on Brokerage). Additional domains serve as aliases of the same site — useful for a team brand plus an agent name, or a defensive .com beside the .ca — while one domain remains primary. The primary is the canonical host: search engines are told every alias resolves to it, so multiple domains never split your rankings. Disconnect the primary and the role hands off cleanly to the next active domain.

You can also start without one. Every site launches on a brokerfold.com subdomain that works end to end — listings, CRM, the lot — and connecting your domain later is a settings task, not a rebuild. Nothing about the site changes except the address on it, and the subdomain keeps working as a fallback.

Why the domain matters beyond vanity

Three compounding reasons. SEO equity: every backlink, citation and ranking accrues to the domain — on your own name it is portable across providers, the survival mechanics covered in switching providers without losing SEO. Board paperwork: your site’s address is what goes on MLS data agreements, and the dashboard’s MLS-setup surface presents your connected domain as the copyable website value for exactly that form. Ownership: a brand built on someone else’s subdomain is a tenancy; the wider case is do I own my real estate website.

What the domain feeds downstream

Every lead-generating surface inherits the domain the moment it connects. Alert emails, saved-search links and chat notifications deep-link to your address; SEO pages publish under it into an automatic sitemap; and every CRM contact your site captures traces to a property you control. Included on every plan, the feature costs nothing extra — the only real cost is the ten dollars a year you already pay for the domain that should have been your address all along.

Frequently asked questions

Will connecting my domain break my email?

No — and this is deliberate. Setup adds a few specific DNS records and never moves your nameservers, so your mail records stay untouched wherever they live. Providers that demand a nameserver transfer are taking custody of your email to serve a website; BrokerFold refuses to.

How many domains does my plan include?

Every plan includes at least one custom domain alongside your brokerfold.com subdomain; seat plans include one per included seat — five on Team, twelve on Brokerage. Extra domains beyond the allowance are a quick conversation with us rather than a self-serve upsell.
